Does this hat make me look silly?
Doesn't matter, I told my son I would wear it.
Alexander Siddig played Dr. Bashir on Star Trek Deep Space Nine. He was
born in the Sudan with a name twelve miles and seven hundred and
sixty-eight syllables long (I am, of course exaggerating). He pronounced
it at the convention but he lost me after Siddig. Fans of DS9 will
recognize him as Siddig El Fadil from the credits on the first season. Interesting story about the name he finally chose. He explained that he took the name Alexander from his best childhood friend... the family dog, Alex. When he said this, all I could think of was the line from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade - "We named the dog Indiana!"
I later found out that the dog was actually named after the character
Alex in A Clockwork Orange. The character was played by Malcolm
McDowell, who is Siddig's uncle. Alexander had a lot of respect
for his uncle, enjoyed spending time with his uncle as a child and named
the dog after the character. So, in a roundabout way, he took his
name from his uncle, not the dog. |
